How to Install ETC on the Car Windshield?
2 Answers
ETC device installation process on the windshield is as follows: Upon receiving the device, first check if the ETC card and the electronic tag (OBU) are damaged. Press the anti-tamper button on the back of the OBU. A red light will briefly illuminate, and the OLED screen will display "Tag Invalid" or "Please Insert Card," indicating the device is functioning properly. Clean the front windshield to ensure the surface is smooth, clean, and dry. Then peel off the adhesive backing of the OBU and stick it to the installation position. Press firmly with your hand for 2-3 minutes to remove any air bubbles. Insert the ETC card with the front side facing the driver and the back side facing the windshield. The chip should be inserted into the OBU device. ETC Activation Method: Insert and remove the ETC card twice in succession until the electronic tag screen displays "Bluetooth On." If "Tag Invalid" appears when inserting and removing the card twice without attaching the electronic tag, this is normal and does not affect activation. Alternatively, you can press the button on the top of the electronic tag to enable Bluetooth. Turn on your phone’s Bluetooth and open the corresponding mobile app (usually a download QR code is provided on the electronic tag). Navigate to the device activation interface. Click "Device Connect" and wait patiently for the "Connection Successful" prompt. Once connected, upload a photo of the vehicle’s front to complete the activation.
When installing the ETC, first find a suitable location, usually on the upper part of the windshield near the passenger side, next to the rearview mirror, so it doesn’t obstruct the view. Use a damp cloth to carefully clean the area, removing all dust and grease, ensuring it’s clean and clear. Then peel off the protective film on the back of the ETC device to expose the adhesive, align it properly, and press firmly onto the spot. Use your fingers to press evenly for about ten seconds to ensure a strong bond. After attaching it, activate the device, typically by turning it on and pressing a button or connecting via Bluetooth to complete the setup. The whole process is simple and can be done yourself in about half an hour. However, be careful not to choose a spot with tinted film or heating wires, as this may cause signal issues. After installation, I tested it at a toll booth, and the recognition was super fast, saving both time and money. For maintenance, just wipe off dust and avoid hard impacts.
