How to Install an ETC Device?

ETC device installation process is as follows: Upon receiving the device, first check if the ETC card and the electronic tag (OBU) are damaged. Press the anti-tamper button on the back of the OBU, and the red light will briefly illuminate. The OLED screen will display "Label Invalid" and "Please Insert Card," indicating the device is functioning normally. Clean the front windshield, ensuring the glass surface is smooth, clean, and dry. Then peel off the adhesive backing of the OBU and stick it to the installation position. Press firmly for 2-3 minutes to remove any air bubbles. Insert the ETC card with the front side facing the driver and the back side facing the windshield, ensuring the chip is inserted into the OBU device. ETC installation positions: For small vehicles like cars and minivans, the ETC card and OBU device should be installed in the upper middle part of the front windshield. For large vehicles like trucks and buses, the installation position is in the lower middle part. ETC installation requirements: The height should be no less than 1.2 meters and no higher than 2.5 meters; the installation angle N should be between 30º and 90º (the angle between the electronic tag surface and the horizontal plane).
I just installed an ETC on my car, and it was much simpler than I imagined. First, clean the area behind the rearview mirror on the windshield with alcohol to remove any grease. When peeling off the adhesive backing, be careful not to shake your hand, align it correctly, and press firmly for 30 seconds to ensure it sticks securely. To activate, turn on your phone's Bluetooth and follow the instructions in the app. I used my bank card for binding—just fill in the license plate and owner information, and it's done. After installation, I tested it on the highway, and it passed through the toll gate in a flash—no more queuing to get a ticket or pay. The key is to make sure the solar charging panel faces outward, so it won't run out of power even on rainy days. A reminder: don't remove it within two days after installation, or you'll have to reactivate it.
Last time I helped a friend install an ETC device, I realized details matter. First, check the device's card slot for dust, then stick it to the black dotted area on the right side of the rearview mirror—this position won't obstruct the view. When attaching it, avoid scratching the adhesive layer with your nails and keep the device's horizontal line parallel to the window frame. A pitfall during activation: the phone's location permission must be enabled for recognition—I struggled at first without knowing this. Avoid installing on rainy days, as high humidity may weaken the adhesive. After installation, test it on a short highway trip. Once, my device didn’t respond, and it turned out the card wasn’t inserted firmly. When washing the car, avoid spraying this area forcefully to prevent water damage.
