Identifying the quality of an ignition coil can be done through the following methods: 1. Feel the temperature of the ignition coil casing by hand; it should feel warm under normal conditions, but if it feels too hot to touch, it indicates an inter-turn short circuit fault in the ignition coil. 2. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the primary and secondary windings. If the resistance is infinite, it means there is an open circuit fault in the winding. If the resistance is too high or too low, it indicates poor contact or an inter-turn short circuit in the winding. 3. Use the substitution method with a comparative spark test. Compare the spark intensity of the ignition coil being tested with that of a known good ignition coil to see if they are the same. Faults in the ignition coil can lead to: 1. No secondary voltage being generated or the secondary voltage being too low to ignite. 2. Although a spark may occur, the reduced secondary voltage results in insufficient ignition energy, causing high-speed misfires, incomplete combustion, difficulty in starting the engine, unstable idle, reduced power, increased exhaust pollution, and higher fuel consumption.
