How to Handle ETC When Replacing the Front Windshield?

Replacing the windshield means the ETC can no longer be used. Since the ETC is installed on the windshield, after replacing the glass and reinstalling the ETC, you need to go to the bank to activate it; otherwise, it will not function. This is because moving the ETC recognition box will render it invalid. ETC Activation Method: Insert and remove the ETC card twice in succession until the electronic tag screen displays "Bluetooth is on." If inserting and removing twice without the electronic tag attached shows "Tag invalid," this is normal and does not affect activation. Alternatively, you can press the button on top of the electronic tag to enable Bluetooth. Turn on your phone's Bluetooth, open the corresponding mobile app (usually a download QR code is provided on the electronic tag), and enter the device activation interface. Click "Connect Device" and wait patiently for the "Connection successful" prompt. Once connected, upload a photo of the vehicle's front to complete the activation.
Last time I replaced my windshield, I also encountered an issue with the ETC. Before removing the old windshield, remember to take off the ETC device first. That small square box has an anti-tamper switch on the back, and pulling it off forcefully can cause it to fail. I used a hairdryer to heat and soften the adhesive, then slowly pried it off with a plastic card—never use a knife to scrape it. After installing the new windshield, find a clean and dust-free spot to reattach it, preferably near the rearview mirror where it won’t obstruct your view. Clean the glass surface, apply the specialized adhesive, and press firmly for 30 seconds to secure it. After installation, remember to test it—I drove straight to the toll booth to check and confirmed the sensor was working properly before feeling at ease. If you’re not confident about removing it yourself, you can ask the repair shop technicians to handle it; they usually help for free.
