Insert the red T-shaped lever into the small hole in front of the gear shift lever and below the cup holder, then rotate it 90° clockwise. Remove the gear shift lever dust cover to see the emergency release button, and use a screwdriver or other tool to push it forward. There is a white cover plate at the lower left of the instrument panel. Insert a coin into the groove of the cover plate and turn it counterclockwise to open it, then pull the red cable inside. There is a hexagon socket screw and a P gear lever at the middle lower part of the left side of the transmission. Turn the screw upward to lift the P gear lever.

That time at the highway rest area when my Excelle got stuck in P gear, I was sweating with anxiety. Later, I discovered a small square cover next to the gear shift. Prying it open with a key revealed a yellow button. You have to firmly press the brake, hold the button, and simultaneously pull the gear lever to disengage from P gear. This mechanical unlock design is quite ingenious, working by bypassing the electronic control system to directly release the locking mechanism. However, it's important to remember this is only a temporary solution, as there might still be trouble codes in the transmission afterward. When I later visited the 4S shop, they found that the gear position sensor wiring harness had been chewed through by a rat. It's advisable to keep a plastic prying tool in the car, being careful not to scratch the interior during operation, and to seek a professional technician for a comprehensive inspection immediately after unlocking.

As a female car owner, I was quite frightened when the P gear got stuck. Later, I learned that all Excelle models have an emergency release port designed at the base of the gear lever, located just in front of the cup holder. A nail file can be used to pry open the protective cover, and the orange button inside needs to be operated simultaneously with the brake. It's recommended to use a phone flashlight for illumination and wear flat shoes to ensure the brake is fully depressed. This mechanism actually varies from car to car; the release button on the Excelle is more concealed compared to Volkswagen models. A successful release will be accompanied by a clicking mechanical sound, indicating the parking pawl has been released. However, remember not to use the emergency release repeatedly, as it can easily damage the plastic clips.
