How to Distinguish Between Single Axle, Tandem Axle, and Quad Axle?
1 Answers
Single front axle means there is only one steering axle, and the vehicle has only one I-beam. Single rear axle means there is only one differential and one rear axle housing. Compared to single axle configurations, there are three types: front tandem axle with single rear axle, front single axle with rear tandem axle, and front tandem axle with rear tandem axle. One type of tandem axle configuration is front tandem and rear tandem, which, as the name suggests, means the vehicle has four axles in total. The fourth axle configuration is referred to as a quad axle.
