Use a flathead screwdriver, place it in the notch at the bottom of the key, and pry open the key shell. It might be tight, so gently twist the screwdriver left and right to open it. Once the notch is pried open, separate the upper and lower shells along the edge. You can use a card or simply slide your fingernail slowly forward to separate the upper and lower shells.
