How to Determine When Brake Pads Need Replacement
1 Answers
There are three methods to determine when brake pads need replacement: 1. Check the thickness: New brake pads are generally about 1.5 cm thick. When worn down to one-third of their original thickness (less than 5 mm), they should be replaced. 2. Listen for sounds: When the wear indicators on both sides of the brake pads make contact with the brake disc and produce unusual noises, replacement is necessary. 3. Watch for warnings: Some vehicle models have brake wear indicators. Excessive wear will cause the sensor line to contact the brake disc, changing resistance and generating current. This triggers a signal, and the dashboard will display a brake pad warning light.
