To deal with yellowing car headlight covers, I prefer DIY solutions that are cost-effective and efficient. First, thoroughly clean the surface of the headlight cover with water and dish soap to remove dust and grease. Then, apply regular toothpaste to the cover and use a soft cloth or sponge to polish it in circular motions for about five to six minutes. The abrasive ingredients in the toothpaste can scrape off the oxidized yellow layer. For severe yellowing, I use 1500-grit fine sandpaper dipped in water to gently sand the surface, but be careful not to scratch the cover. Finally, after drying, apply car wax or polish for protection, as sunlight exposure is the main cause of accelerated oxidation. After this treatment, the light transmittance improves by about 70-80%, and the brightness of the headlights is much better. To prevent recurrence, park in the shade to avoid prolonged sun exposure—safety first. The whole process takes about half an hour and costs just a few cents.
