If it is still on, it is necessary to promptly go to the shop to check the fault code to determine whether it is an engine problem or a sensor malfunction.
When I see the diesel exhaust warning light come on, I generally take it as a signal that there's an issue with the emission system, such as a possible clog in the diesel particulate filter. Since I often drive short distances, particulate matter tends to accumulate easily. In such cases, I first make sure not to panic, find a safe place to pull over, and use an OBD scanner to check the fault codes—it's just a small tool costing a few dozen dollars. If it's a minor issue, I try driving at high speed for about 20 minutes, keeping the RPM around 2500 to raise the exhaust temperature and allow automatic soot cleaning. If the light remains on, it's not wise to ignore it, and I head to a repair shop to check the sensors or get a professional cleaning. Regular maintenance, avoiding too many short trips, and using low-ash engine oil can help prevent this issue.
