How to Deal with Mold and Mildew Growing on the Steering Wheel?
2 Answers
Car steering wheels are usually covered with a layer of leather, which can be treated with anti-mold and antibacterial agents. Mold growth is often caused by a damp steering wheel and an overall humid interior environment. You can clean it with water, dry it with a cloth, and then ventilate the car by opening the windows.
The steering wheel of my car got moldy because it was too humid inside the car during the recent rainy season. I wore gloves and sprayed a mixture of white vinegar and water on it. The mold spots gradually softened, and then I gently brushed off the fluff with a toothbrush, being careful not to press too hard to avoid damaging the leather surface. After cleaning, I used a hairdryer on low speed to dry it, preventing residual moisture from causing mold again. It's important to park in a ventilated area and keep the windows open for air circulation. I also placed two dehumidifying bags under the seats to absorb moisture. If the mold stains are severe, try using a car-specific disinfectant spray. After treatment, the steering wheel will shine like new. Remember, safety comes first.
