How to Deal with Excessive Rear Axle Noise?
1 Answers
Excessive rear axle noise can be addressed by adjusting the differential gear clearance. Operating Principle: The rear axle contains a set of differential gears, which form a differential gear set consisting of spiral bevel gears. The drive shaft drives the pinion gear, which then transmits power through the ring gear and planetary gears to the vehicle's half-shafts, ultimately driving the wheels. The planetary gear system ensures that the outer wheel rotates faster and the inner wheel slower when the car turns, which is the function of the differential. Causes: When the gear set wears out, the meshing clearance between the gears increases, resulting in significant noise during high-speed rotation. The meshing clearance of the gears can be adjusted using shims, and a mechanic can properly adjust these clearances.
