How to Deactivate the Auto Start-Stop Function in Corolla?

Corolla's auto start-stop function is enabled by default. Once the car is started, the auto start-stop system operates normally. To deactivate it, simply press the auto start-stop button. Advantages and disadvantages of the auto start-stop system: 1. Advantages: It can reduce unnecessary fuel consumption, lower emissions, and improve fuel economy. In urban traffic, when waiting for traffic lights or in traffic jams, it minimizes engine idling time. Additionally, when the engine is off, the power supply can replace the pulley to provide operating power for the engine cooling fan and the car's air conditioning. 2. Disadvantages: It requires a more durable starter and battery. Conventional starters are designed to handle high operating currents but for short durations. Frequent use of the starter can easily lead to overheating and damage. Therefore, starters with auto start-stop functionality must be significantly more durable than standard starters.
When driving my Corolla, I find the auto start-stop feature quite annoying in congested traffic, as the engine repeatedly starts and stops with noticeable vibrations and battery drain. Turning it off is simple: after starting the car, look for a button with an 'A' symbol on the left side of the dashboard – just press it gently, and when the indicator light turns on, the feature is deactivated. You’ll need to do this every time you start the car since the system defaults to 'on.' After disabling it, the drive becomes much smoother—the engine runs continuously without interruption, responds faster when accelerating, and reduces vibrations. Although Toyota designed it to save fuel, turning it off significantly improves comfort during short city drives. I recommend disabling it in heavy traffic or areas with frequent stop-and-go situations, while keeping it on for normal driving to help extend battery life.
