To deactivate the ECO function in Mercedes-Benz, press the ECO start-stop function button once. When the indicator light turns off, the ECO function will be deactivated. How ECO works: When the vehicle is stationary, the ECO start-stop function automatically shuts off the engine and restarts it immediately when the driver intends to move. Cutting off the engine while the vehicle is stationary helps reduce fuel consumption, thereby lowering exhaust emissions. Mercedes-Benz models include: Mercedes-Benz GLS, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Mercedes-Benz CLA. Taking the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS as an example, it is a mid-to-large-sized car with body dimensions of 4988mm in length, 1890mm in width, 1424mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2939mm.

I know this well, as I've been driving my Mercedes for five or six years. Turning off ECO is actually quite simple—Mercedes now operates everything through the left touch control area on the steering wheel. Just tap the little house icon on the far left to enter the menu. See the driving mode option? Swipe left once, and you'll spot the ECO icon there. Lightly tap to turn it off, and the dashboard will immediately display Comfort or Sport mode. By the way, ECO mode does save fuel, but the throttle response is a bit sluggish. If you're in a hurry, it's more comfortable to turn it off. Shift to S mode for quick overtaking—though be prepared for a slight increase in fuel consumption.

Just adjust this on the steering wheel. Find the main menu button shaped like a house in the left button area, press it and the screen will display settings. Swipe left or right to find the 'Driving' option, where you can see the Eco mode switch. Use the steering wheel touchpad to directly click the ECO option to toggle it. By the way, for some new models with 48V mild hybrid, turning off ECO will reduce motor intervention, making the engine start-up more noticeable. Remember not to casually turn off traction control in rainy conditions—it's a separate matter from ECO.

Back when I drove a C-Class, I figured out that turning off Mercedes' ECO mode isn't complicated at all. Just swipe down on the central display to access the quick menu, or simply say 'Hey Mercedes, turn off eco mode.' It definitely feels more comfortable on highways with ECO off—the throttle response becomes much more direct. However, the start-stop function is separate, controlled by a button with an 'A' symbol on the left side of the steering wheel. People often mix these up—disabling ECO doesn't mean the start-stop is turned off; they require separate operations.
