How to check the water temperature on BMW e90?

BMW e90 will automatically alarm when the water temperature is high. You need to call up the hidden display, but it will hide again once the key is turned off. Automobile water temperature sensor: The interior of the automobile water temperature sensor is a water temperature sensor. The lower the temperature, the greater the resistance; conversely, the smaller the resistance. It is installed on the water jacket of the engine block or cylinder head, in direct contact with the coolant, to measure the temperature of the engine coolant. Automobile cooling system: The main function of the cooling system is to dissipate heat into the air to prevent engine overheating, but the cooling system also has other important roles. The engine in a car operates best at a properly high temperature. If the engine becomes cold, it will accelerate component wear, thereby reducing engine efficiency and emitting more pollutants. Therefore, another important function of the cooling system is to warm up the engine as quickly as possible and maintain it at a constant temperature.
I remember checking the coolant temperature in the BMW E90 was quite simple. After starting the car, just look at the coolant temperature gauge icon in the center or right side of the dashboard – it resembles a thermometer. Under normal conditions, the needle should steadily stay in the middle position, indicating the coolant temperature is around 90 degrees. If it rises too high, it may indicate overheating issues. Occasionally glancing at it while driving, if the needle rises too quickly or enters the red zone, this usually signals a cooling system malfunction, such as low coolant level, radiator blockage, or a faulty water pump. I always pay special attention to this when driving my E90, especially during long trips, as hot weather can easily lead to poor heat dissipation. During maintenance, I regularly check the coolant level and fan operation to prevent minor issues from escalating. If any abnormality is detected, I immediately pull over to let the engine cool down, avoiding damage to core components – BMW repair costs aren’t cheap. In short, making it a habit to monitor the coolant temperature can help prevent potential hazards in advance.
