Here's a simple trick for you: Open the hood and look for the silver nameplate, which is engraved with the manufacturing year and month. If the nameplate is rusted and illegible, try checking the seatbelt label. Pull it to the bottom to find the date code, for example, October 2020 would be marked as 20/10. The hidden code in the corner of the glass also contains information: the number represents the last digit of the year, and the dots indicate the month. If the dot is before the number, subtract it from 7; if it's after, subtract directly from 13. For instance, ·15· means April 2015. Note that the dates on all parts should logically be earlier than the vehicle's manufacturing date.

As an experienced mechanic, I recommend three verification methods: 1) Take a photo of the 10th digit of the VIN on the windshield and compare it with the year code table; 2) Check the vehicle information page of the electronic policy; 3) The most straightforward way is to look at the nameplate on the door frame of the passenger seat. For parallel imported vehicles, pay attention to different VIN rules in foreign countries. For example, US-spec vehicles may use the number 0 to represent 2020. For used cars, focus on three major component dates: the engine block has a steel stamp with the manufacturing year/month, the transmission case is laser-etched with a date like '2022/06', and the headlight label has a small date in the corner. These dates should all be 1-3 months earlier than the car's factory date—if the engine date is later, it's definitely a replaced part.
