First, you need to open the hood. Locate the engine oil dipstick handle in the engine compartment and prepare a piece of tissue. Pull out the dipstick, use the tissue to wipe the dipstick head clean. You can also see the scale markings on the dipstick. Reinsert the cleaned dipstick, then pull it out again. This time, observe the oil adhering to the end of the dipstick. Check the oil level on the dipstick. If the oil level is between the lower and upper limits, it indicates the optimal position, meaning the engine oil quantity is appropriate.
Last time during a long-distance drive when I noticed increased engine noise, I remembered to check the oil level. Jaguar's method is quite simple: first park the car on level ground and turn off the engine, then wait about ten minutes for the oil to drain back to ensure an accurate reading (hot engine measurements can be inaccurate and risk burns). Next, open the hood, locate the dipstick with the yellow ring, pull it out, wipe it clean with a tissue, reinsert it fully, then pull it out again after a few seconds to check the markings. The oil level should be between the MIN and MAX marks – if it's too low, you'll need to promptly add the same brand of oil. Many experienced drivers overlook this habit, but insufficient oil can cause engine overheating and costly damage. Checking every 5,000 kilometers prevents roadside emergencies, and since adopting this routine, my car has had far fewer issues.
