If the Corolla fuel gauge needle points to E, it indicates that the fuel in the tank is nearly empty and requires attention. When the fuel warning light illuminates, the car can still travel approximately 20 kilometers. Beyond this range, drive cautiously and refuel at a gas station as soon as possible. Precautions for using the fuel gauge are as follows: 1. Do not wait until the warning light comes on to refuel. The fuel pump is located inside the tank and relies on gasoline for cooling and lubrication. Insufficient fuel levels can hinder the pump's normal operation and reduce its lifespan. 2. Avoid filling the tank completely. Gasoline expands when heated and evaporates into vapor under high summer temperatures, requiring space to accommodate. Overfilling leaves no room, causing gasoline vapor or even liquid fuel to enter the carbon canister for storage. Once the canister is full, excess vapor escapes into the air, leading to waste and environmental pollution. Daily observations such as replacing the battery or fuel filter, or even after parking overnight, may reveal the fuel gauge needle slightly lower than its original position. This is a normal phenomenon. When the fuel pump operates, negative pressure forms inside the tank, reducing its effective volume and causing the fuel level to appear higher. Additionally, thermal expansion of gasoline due to temperature increases the displayed level. When temperatures drop or the fuel tank is opened, pressure is released, and the fuel level decreases accordingly. Such display deviations are normal and typically do not exceed the width of the needle.
As someone who recently got my driver's license, I find checking the fuel gauge in a Corolla quite straightforward. After getting in the car, turn the key to start the engine or press the push-start button, then immediately look at the instrument cluster in front of you.
