How to Check if an ETC Card is Activated?

Methods to check ETC activation success: View through the ETC Assistant mini-program, which will prompt "Activation Successful" upon successful activation; Remove and reinsert the card into the device - for a debit card, the device will display "card" or "debit card", while a stored-value card will show the balance, indicating the ETC is activated. ETC Working Principle: Through dedicated short-range communication between the onboard electronic tag installed on the vehicle's windshield and the microwave antenna in the ETC lane at toll stations, combined with computer networking technology for backend bank settlement, the system enables vehicles to pass through highway or bridge toll stations without stopping to pay fees. ETC Installation Positions: For small vehicles like cars and minivans, the OBU device should be installed in the upper middle section of the front windshield. For large vehicles like trucks and buses, the installation position is in the lower middle section. ETC Installation Requirements: Height should be no less than 1.2 meters and no more than 2.5 meters; The installation angle N should be between 30º and 90º (the angle between the electronic tag surface and the horizontal plane).
After installing the ETC, I always observe the indicator light on the in-vehicle OBU device to check if it's activated. A steady green light indicates successful activation, while a flashing red light means it's still initializing. For the first use, I would choose a short highway trip to test it—smooth passage without obstruction proves the card is working fine. If the indicator light is unclear, you can open the bank app or ETC service app's query function, enter the card number to check the status update. I recommend activating it in advance to avoid trouble at toll stations during long trips—an unactivated card may be rejected by the toll system or even incur additional fees. The installer said activation usually completes within a few hours, faster in areas with good signal.
