How to Check for Engine Misfire?
1 Answers
Methods to determine engine misfire: 1. Remove ignition wires: Remove ignition wires cylinder by cylinder. If the shaking worsens, it's not a misfire in that cylinder. If there's no change, that cylinder is misfiring. Generally, fuel injectors still spray fuel in a misfiring cylinder, which can severely cause high temperatures in the catalytic converter leading to failure. Therefore, when conducting the ignition wire removal test for misfire, the duration should not be too long to avoid causing new faults. 2. Observe common symptoms: Engine misfire can lead to increased fuel consumption, black smoke emission, lack of power, reduced horsepower, inability to accelerate, severe shaking, increased driving noise, and poses significant safety risks, especially on uphill starts. The engine load increases in misfiring vehicles, making body shaking more noticeable and increasing the likelihood of sudden stalling.
