How to Apply for ETC for Motorcycles?

Motorcycles cannot apply for ETC. Where can ETC be installed: For small vehicles such as cars and minivans, the OBU device is installed in the upper middle part of the front windshield, while for large vehicles like trucks and buses, it is installed in the lower middle part. ETC installation position requirements: the height should not be less than 1.2 meters or more than 2.5 meters; the installation angle N should be between 30º and 90º (the angle between the surface of the electronic tag and the horizontal plane). The ETC installation process is as follows: Upon receiving the device, first check whether the ETC card and the electronic tag (OBU) are damaged. Press the anti-tamper button on the back of the OBU, and the red light will briefly turn on. The OLED screen will display "Tag Invalid" or "Please Insert Card," indicating that the device is functioning properly. Clean the front windshield to ensure the surface is smooth, clean, and dry. Then peel off the adhesive backing film of the OBU and stick it to the installation position. Press firmly with your hand for 2-3 minutes to remove any air bubbles. Insert the ETC card with the front side facing the driver and the back side facing the windshield, ensuring the chip is inserted into the OBU device.
I just got an ETC for my motorcycle last year, and the whole process was quite simple, not taking too much time. The main steps involve preparing the required documents: bring your ID card, vehicle license, and the original motorcycle registration certificate, then visit a partnered bank branch or an ETC service point at a highway rest area. Staff there will help install the OBU device on-site, verify your information, and after installation, you just need to download an app to activate it—ready to use. The entire process takes less than half an hour, and the cost usually includes a device deposit or is free during promotional periods. I paid a 50-yuan deposit, which was fully refunded after six months without any deductions. With ETC, highway access is much more convenient—no need to queue for toll payments, safer, and no traffic jams. I often remind my friends to get it early because peak-hour highway queues can be frustrating. Now, with technology upgrades, the app also allows checking bills and fault detection—just periodically check the device connection status. Motorcycle ETC is similar to car ETC; the key is choosing a larger service point to minimize errors.
