How to align the timing chain on a Geely Emgrand?

There are three yellow links on the timing chain, with two of them aligning with the timing marks on the intake and exhaust camshaft sprockets. Align the second yellow link on the chain with the timing mark on the intake camshaft VVT actuator sprocket, and align the third yellow link with the timing mark on the exhaust sprocket. Install the timing chain guide assembly, tensioner guide assembly, and other components. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise two turns to check the valve timing. Install the crankshaft pulley. Use a special tool to install the crankshaft pulley bolt.
I've done the timing chain alignment quite a few times, mainly on Geely Emgrand models. The steps require careful attention. First, turn off the engine and rotate the crankshaft to find the top dead center position, ensuring the piston is at its highest point. Then, look for a raised dot or mark on the chain—it needs to align with the corresponding mark on the camshaft gear, followed by aligning the mark on the crankshaft gear. The whole process should be steady; don't rush. Sometimes the marks are faint, so I use white paint to make temporary marks for assistance. Once aligned, use a wrench to secure the crankshaft in place and slowly reinstall the chain, checking the tension afterward. If it's too loose, the chain might skip teeth. Misalignment can cause engine shaking, difficulty starting, or even valve damage. It's recommended to use specialized tools, and if unsure, seek professional help—safety first. Regularly inspect the chain for wear every few tens of thousands of kilometers to prolong its lifespan.
