How to align the timing chain of a Kia Cerato?

First, use a timing wheel holder to secure the timing wheel. Then, use a wrench to loosen the screw on the timing wheel shaft to facilitate subsequent chain alignment. Next, locate the colored timing chain sprocket on the camshaft. Rotate the chain on the camshaft to align the sprocket with the small dot on the wheel, ensuring the timing is correctly aligned. Finally, release the holder on the timing wheel shaft to complete the timing alignment.
I've been driving a Cerato for ten years, and I had to be extra careful when I replaced the timing chain myself. The first step is to remove the valve cover and oil pan to expose the timing chain system. At this point, you need to align the timing marks of the crankshaft and camshaft. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise to the top dead center position of the first cylinder, and the chain mark on the crankshaft must align with the point on the engine block. The camshaft also requires careful attention—the marked slots on the two camshaft gears must correspond with the colored links on the chain. It's best to use a specialized tool to lock the camshaft in place to prevent rotation. After installing the new chain, manually turn the engine a few times to confirm all marks are correctly reset, and finally reinstall the tensioner. The most critical part of the entire process is the three alignment checks—once for the crankshaft and twice for the camshaft. Being off by even one tooth could lead to valve damage. Even as an experienced driver, I felt nervous doing this job. I recommend taking it to a repair shop if you're not confident—it’s much less hassle.
