How to adjust the valves on a Honda Civic?
1 Answers
Honda Civic valve adjustment method is as follows: 1. Warm up the engine until the coolant temperature reaches between 80~90°C. Open the timing mark inspection hole on the clutch housing and the cylinder head cover, and ensure that the cylinder head bolts are tightened to the specified torque. 2. Rotate the crankshaft to align the "0" mark on the flywheel with the marking line on the clutch housing. Confirm that the curved surface of the intake and exhaust valve rocker arms of the first cylinder is in contact with the base circle of the camshaft cam. 3. Loosen the lock nut 2 of the adjusting screw 1. Use a screwdriver to turn the adjusting screw so that the gap A between the lower end face of the screw and the upper end face of the valve stem 3 is the specified clearance value, determined by the thickness of a feeler gauge. Keep the screwdriver stationary, tighten the lock nut to the specified torque, and then recheck the gap A with the feeler gauge. This completes the adjustment of the intake and exhaust valve clearance for the first cylinder. 4. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. For every 180° rotation, adjust the valve clearance of the next firing cylinder in the order of 1-3-4-2.
