How to Adjust the Passat Steering Wheel?

There is a mechanical lever below the steering wheel, press it downward once. Then adjust the steering wheel height, and pull this lever upward to secure it.
As a long-time Passat owner who frequently takes long road trips, I find steering wheel adjustment particularly important. First, find a safe place to park and ensure the car is completely turned off. Then, sit in the driver's seat and locate the adjustment lever under the steering wheel—usually a wrench-shaped mechanism on the left or right side. Pull it downward or push it outward to release the lock. Next, gently pull the steering wheel to adjust its height (up and down) or telescopically move it forward/backward to find the most comfortable position for your arms and chest. Ideally, your fingers should naturally reach the edge of the wheel when your arms are slightly bent. After adjustment, reset and tighten the lever to ensure no looseness. Finally, start the car to test if the steering feels natural. I always emphasize not skipping this step, as incorrect posture increases fatigue, slows emergency reaction time, and can cause wrist strain. Remember to regularly check this mechanism, especially ensuring it’s securely locked on rainy days to avoid hazards.
