How to adjust the height of Focus headlights?

Focus headlights can be adjusted for both height and lateral alignment, with two adjustment points per headlight—one for height and one for lateral alignment. A Phillips screwdriver can be used as the tool. Simply find a reference point, turn on the lights, and adjust them to the desired height. Detailed instructions are as follows: 1. After pressing the Focus headlight adjustment button, the button will pop out. Rotate it to the desired setting, then press the button back into place to complete the adjustment. It is recommended to adjust the height based on the load conditions. The headlight beam control will activate when the ignition is in the 'ON' position and the headlights are turned on, allowing the headlight axis to be adjusted according to driving conditions. 2. If driving without heavy loads/luggage or on flat roads, select the normal position '0'. If the number of passengers or the load/luggage changes, the headlight axis may be higher than the normal position. To adjust to the appropriate beam height, simply turn the corresponding switch. The higher the number marked on the switch, the lower the headlight axis will be.
I've been driving a Focus for several years, and the headlight height adjustment often requires manual tweaking. First, find a level spot to park the car, then sit in the driver's seat and glance at the lower left side of the steering wheel—there's usually a small knob with a headlight icon. Turn it clockwise to lower the beam and counterclockwise to raise it, testing how the light changes. If it's an older Focus model without the knob, pop the hood, locate the adjustment screw at the back of the headlight assembly, and gently turn it with a hex key. Remember to test the lights against a wall at night, ensuring the beam center doesn't exceed 1 meter above the ground to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers. I used to be lazy about adjustments, which once nearly caused an accident due to poor nighttime visibility. Now, I make it a habit to check monthly, especially during seasonal changes when bulb positions tend to shift.
