The Touareg offers a total of four driving modes: 1. Highway mode; 2. Snow mode; 3. Off-road mode; 4. Custom off-road mode. Choose the corresponding driving mode based on different road conditions and traffic situations. On dry paved roads, you can directly select the Highway mode, which further offers three sub-modes: Economy mode, Standard mode, and Sport mode. The Touareg is a new mid-to-large SUV under SAIC Volkswagen, featuring a design heavily inspired by the CrossBlue concept car. The overall appearance is very bold, with a dual-slat chrome grille that extends directly into the headlights. In terms of power, the Touareg offers optional 2.0TSI high or low-power engines and a 2.5TV6 engine.

The driving mode adjustment knob of the Teramont is located near the gear lever, a very noticeable circular knob. When I drive, I can switch between modes like Economy, Comfort, and Sport by turning this knob, and the current mode pattern is displayed in real-time on the trip computer screen. I tried Sport mode on the highway—the steering wheel immediately became heavier, the gear shift RPM surged, and overtaking was particularly crisp. If driving on bumpy roads, switching to Off-road mode noticeably raises the chassis and makes the four-wheel drive more responsive. Remember to switch modes when the speed is below 10km/h; for safety, it's best to stop before switching. If adjusted to Custom mode, you can individually set details like steering wheel force and suspension stiffness, but the personalized settings require about two minutes of operation on the central control screen.

I particularly love the Eco mode in the Touareg, which saves a lot of fuel during rush hour traffic jams. The mode switch is located on the left side of the gear lever, and you can feel a clear tactile feedback when rotating it. Recently, I found that Comfort mode is the most suitable for carrying family members, as it filters out the vibrations over speed bumps very smoothly. Although Sport mode is exhilarating, it keeps the RPMs consistently high. A reminder to everyone: after switching to Snow mode in snowy conditions, the throttle response is intentionally delayed to prevent slipping, but you still need to manually shift to S gear when encountering slopes. When Off-road mode is activated, the central display automatically shows the power distribution to all four wheels, and the instrument panel pops up a Hill Descent Control switch, which is quite intuitive in design.

Adjusting the driving mode actually coordinates multiple systems. In Eco mode, the air conditioning power is reduced, while Sport mode activates dynamic chassis control. The other day when I switched to Sport mode on a mountain road, I clearly felt the outer wheels actively applying braking force to assist with cornering. If you frequently drive on unpaved roads, it's recommended to enable the off-road steering assist function in the custom mode, which can reduce the turning radius by over a meter. However, it takes two to three seconds to fully activate after switching, so don't rush to step on the accelerator. The instrument cluster theme color changes with the mode: blue for Eco, red for Sport, and the focus of driving information display also varies.
