How to Adjust Misaligned Headlights?

Adjusting the headlights can be done as follows: 1. Use a marker or chalk to mark the center of the headlight beam's range on the wall, and also make a mark on the wall corresponding to the center of the vehicle's emblem (the exact front center of the car). 2. Measure the distance from each headlight mark to the center mark; these distances should be equal. 3. If the headlights are offset outward or inward, refer to the vehicle's user manual and use a screwdriver for fine adjustments to ensure the headlights are symmetrically aligned. 4. Adjust the height of the beams: the right headlight should be completely level, while the left headlight should be adjusted approximately 10cm higher.
Misaligned headlights are quite common, and I always prefer to fix them myself when I encounter the issue. First, find a flat surface, park the car steadily, and position it 5 to 10 meters away from a wall. Turn on the headlights and use tape to mark the current light position and the desired center point on the wall. Open the hood, locate the adjustment screws at the back of the headlights—usually cross-head screws—and rotate them using common tools. Turning clockwise adjusts the light to the right, while counterclockwise moves it to the left. Make small adjustments, turning the lights off and on to check the alignment. Ensure other lights are functioning properly during adjustment, as incorrect tire pressure can also cause misalignment. Safety first—if adjustments don’t work, seek professional help immediately to avoid nighttime driving hazards. Regular checks can also extend the lifespan of your headlights.
