Geely Boyue's voice function is automatically activated without any setup. The Boyue offers a variety of voice features, including conventional wake-up, custom wake-up, fixed phrases, and speaker selection. Taking the 2021 Geely Boyue as an example, it belongs to the compact SUV category with the following dimensions: length 4519mm, width 1831mm, height 1694mm, and a wheelbase of 2670mm. Its curb weight is 1575kg. The 2021 Geely Boyue is equipped with a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link independent rear suspension. It is powered by a 1.8L turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum horsepower of 163PS, maximum power of 120kW, and maximum torque of 250Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

I've been driving the Boyue for almost five years, and the most straightforward way to activate the voice assistant is by pressing the microphone button on the left side of the steering wheel. After pressing it and hearing the prompt tone, you can speak directly, for example, saying 'Navigate to People's Square,' and the car's system will respond immediately. If you don't want to use your hands, you can also wake it up by saying 'Hello Boyue,' but I'm used to using the button—it feels more secure while driving. I remember when I first bought the car, I had to enable the voice recognition permission in the settings, but the newer models probably have it enabled by default now. On the road, I rely on it to check the weather, switch songs, and adjust the air conditioning temperature—it's much safer than looking down and poking at the screen.

I usually prefer using voice control while driving, and the Boyue's wake-up method is very simple. Just say 'Hello Geely' to activate the system. If the car is too noisy and there's no response, you can try holding down the voice button on the steering wheel to force wake-up. For the first few uses, it's best to train the voice recognition in a quiet environment a few times, as the car system will learn your pronunciation habits. When driving, if you suddenly want to adjust the air conditioning temperature or open the sunroof, speaking directly is much faster than searching for buttons, especially on the highway. The new model also supports continuous conversation without repeating the wake-up word, and its response is noticeably faster than the one I bought two years ago.

Last time I drove my friend's Boyue, I found the voice assistant quite responsive. There are three ways to activate it: the voice button on the left side of the steering wheel, calling out the wake-up phrase 'Hello Geely,' or directly saying navigation commands to activate it automatically. My friend mentioned that on rainy days, they often use the voice command 'Turn on the rearview mirror heating,' which is about ten seconds faster than manual operation. Note that for newly purchased cars, you need to enable microphone permissions in the vehicle settings, and the wake-up phrase can be changed to your preferred name in the system menu. During commutes, you can have it read news or broadcast traffic conditions, which at least helps pass the time during traffic jams, and it doesn’t affect recognition even if your Mandarin has an accent.
