How to Activate the Tank Turn Feature on the Land Cruiser?

Tank Turn refers to the Land Cruiser's Crawl Control mode. In this mode, the vehicle automatically manages engine output to traverse challenging terrain at extremely low speeds, preventing wheel slippage or getting stuck due to excessive momentum. Activation steps are as follows: 1. With the engine idling, shift to P gear, depress the brake pedal, and initiate Crawl Control. 2. Shift to N gear, engage low-range 4WD by rotating the knob to L4 position. 3. Lock the center differential and shift to D gear. 4. Press the Hill Start Assist button and release the brake. Note: Crawl speed can be manually adjusted via the rotary knob after system activation.
I often used the tank turn function when off-roading in my Land Cruiser. It's simple and convenient to operate. To activate it, the vehicle needs to be at low speed, preferably stopped or just starting, with the speed not exceeding 10 km/h. Find the off-road mode settings on the center console touchscreen, and you'll see the turn assist or similar option. Selecting it will activate the function. The system automatically controls the inner wheel to slow down and the outer wheel to accelerate, reducing the turning radius, which is ideal for narrow off-road sections like forests or rocky areas, so you don't have to worry about getting stuck. Remember to use it only on soft surfaces, not on asphalt or hard surfaces, as it can cause rapid tire wear and waste fuel. Regularly check your vehicle's maintenance to ensure the electronic systems are functioning properly, so the feature remains reliable.
