How Often Should You Start a Parked Car?

A parked car should be started at least once every fifteen days. Prolonged parking may lead to battery discharge, inability to start, and tire deformation. Various fluids may also oxidize and deteriorate, so it is recommended to start the vehicle at least every fifteen days and run it for over half an hour. It is best to move the car or drive a short distance. When a car remains unused for an extended period, most of the lubricating oil adhering to the components that require lubrication will flow back to the oil pan due to gravity, reducing lubrication in moving parts. Metal parts, without the protection of an oil film, are prone to react with oxygen to form an oxide layer, increasing friction and making it difficult to start. If the battery does not receive a charge for a long time, the sulfation process of the battery plates will accelerate, increasing internal resistance and reducing battery lifespan.
