How Often Should You Replace Your Car Key Battery?

Car key batteries are typically button cells that need replacement every one and a half years or so, while cylindrical two-way remote batteries require replacement approximately every six months. The exact timing depends on the frequency of use and battery quality. If the key has been stored in a warehouse for years before purchase, its battery capacity will naturally be lower, thus shortening the replacement interval. When the control range of the key drops below half of its original remote distance or less than five to six meters, it's time to replace the battery promptly. For keys without LCD screens, the battery lifespan is usually 2 to 3 years. For dry-cell car keys, simply open the battery compartment cover to replace the battery, whereas button cell batteries require prying open the remote key's seam to access and replace the battery inside.
