How often should the Focus change its engine oil?

Mineral oil generally needs to be changed every 5,000 kilometers or so. Semi-synthetic oil has a replacement cycle of approximately 7,000 kilometers. Full synthetic oil should be replaced every 10,000 kilometers or so. It is recommended that each oil change should not exceed 10% of the specified oil change interval. Factors affecting the oil change interval also include road conditions, vehicle condition, oil quality, and driving habits during actual driving. The following are the functions of engine oil: 1. It not only lubricates the internal parts of the engine but also aids in cooling, sealing to prevent leaks, and preventing rust and corrosion. 2. Engine oil has a cleaning function, so during each oil change, it is necessary to completely remove the old oil from the engine to allow the new oil to carry out impurities such as carbon deposits and mechanical wear particles from the engine compartment.
My Ford Focus has been running for seven years, and I basically change the engine oil every 8,000 kilometers or so, which is quite appropriate. However, since I mainly drive in the city for commuting, if I frequently drive on highways or long-distance trips, I can appropriately extend the interval to 10,000 kilometers. The key is to consider whether you're using full synthetic or semi-synthetic oil—full synthetic offers better protection and can last an extra 2,000 kilometers. I also regularly check the oil dipstick; if I notice the oil turning black and thick or smell a burnt odor, I’ll change it ahead of schedule even if the mileage hasn’t been reached. High temperatures in summer can cause greater oil consumption, so it’s advisable to shorten the maintenance interval a bit. Don’t skimp on small expenses and risk damaging the engine.
