How Often Should a Motorcycle Chain Be Replaced?

Motorcycle chains should be replaced every 3 years or 20,000 kilometers. It is essential to regularly adjust the motorcycle chain as required, ensuring it maintains proper alignment and tension during the adjustment process. Alignment refers to keeping the sprockets and the chain in a straight line, which is crucial to prevent excessive wear on the sprockets and chain, as well as avoiding chain derailment while riding. While over-loosening of the motorcycle chain is relatively uncommon, prolonged use without adjustment can cause the chain to stretch due to wear or deformation. Regardless of whether the chain or sprockets are new or old, if the chain derails even once, it generally should not be reused as per guidelines. During derailment, the chain can become bent by the sprocket. Once bent, no matter how accurately the front and rear sprockets are adjusted, the bent chain will inevitably damage the sprocket teeth, significantly reducing the lifespan of both the chain and the sprockets.
