How Often Should a Motorcycle Be Serviced?

Motorcycles generally require servicing every three to four months. Under normal circumstances, a motorcycle should be serviced every 2,000 kilometers. It is recommended to adhere to regular maintenance schedules during motorcycle use to ensure the bike remains in optimal condition and to extend its lifespan. Always use genuine parts and fluids during maintenance. The most critical task during motorcycle maintenance is changing the engine oil. Engine oil is often referred to as the 'lifeblood' of the engine. Without it, the engine cannot function properly. Engine oil serves multiple purposes: lubrication, cleaning, sealing, cushioning, rust prevention, and heat dissipation. If the engine lacks oil, it will fail to operate correctly. When the engine is running, the oil forms a protective film on the surfaces of various components, preventing direct contact and friction between them. Direct contact between engine components can generate excessive heat instantly, potentially leading to severe engine damage, such as cylinder scoring. Over time, engine oil loses its effectiveness, so it must be replaced periodically. Prolonged use of old oil can accelerate engine wear. Always replace the oil filter whenever you change the engine oil. Additionally, lubricate the brake lever, side stand pivot and spring hook, and center stand pivot and spring hook every 1,000 kilometers. Adjust the drive chain every 500 kilometers. During the break-in period, avoid using synthetic oil; instead, use motorcycle-specific oil. Switch to synthetic oil only after the break-in period is over.
