According to Article 16 of the Implementation Regulations of the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China: Motor vehicles shall undergo safety technical inspections according to the following periods from the date of registration: Motorcycles within 4 years shall be inspected once every 2 years; those exceeding 4 years shall be inspected once every year. The following are the contents of motor vehicle annual inspections: 1. Document inspection: Check whether there is a vehicle user manual, certificate of conformity (inspection certificate for imported vehicles), and whether the factory inspection marks on the vehicle body are complete. 2. Measurement of internal and external dimensions of the motor vehicle: Measure the internal and external dimensions, wheelbase, and axle base of the motor vehicle. The specific measurement items include vehicle length, width, height, height and area of the cargo compartment, wheelbase, and axle base. 3. Filling out the modification registration form: Conduct inspections item by item according to technical inspection standards. After passing, fill out the 'Initial Inspection Modification Registration Form for Motor Vehicles' and record the unladen weight, load capacity, number of passengers, and number of people in the cab according to the manufacturer's specifications.
I've been riding this motorcycle for almost ten years. In the past, I had to queue up at the inspection station every year for the vehicle inspection, which was really annoying. After the policy adjustment last year, things have become much easier. New motorcycles don’t need to go through on-site inspections for the first six years; you just need to apply for an electronic inspection mark on the Traffic Management 12123 app. On the sixth and tenth years, you’ll need to do an on-site inspection each time, where staff will carefully check core components like lights and brakes. For motorcycles older than ten years, inspections are required annually. Remember to buy compulsory traffic insurance on time, otherwise the inspection station won’t stamp your paperwork. Last time, my neighbor Old Zhang’s bike was held up because the headlight was too dim—he had to spend 50 yuan to replace the bulb before passing. Nowadays, inspection stations are much faster, taking only about half an hour to complete. I recommend avoiding the end-of-month rush if possible.
My friend just bought a motorcycle and asked me about the annual inspection policy. I specifically looked up the latest regulations. Motorcycle inspections are divided into three stages: For the first six years after new vehicle registration, no on-site inspection is required—just obtain an electronic label via the traffic management app every two years. By the sixth year, an on-site inspection is mandatory to check if the braking system is responsive and if the lights are bright enough. After that, you get a four-year break until the tenth year when the second on-site inspection is due. For motorcycles older than ten years, annual inspections are required. Once, I accompanied a colleague for an inspection, and his eight-year-old bike failed due to an unqualified modified exhaust pipe. The inspection fee is now standardized at 150 yuan, and remember to bring the vehicle license and a valid compulsory traffic insurance policy. Late inspections will result in fines and demerit points, and exceeding three inspection cycles leads to mandatory scrapping.
