How much engine oil should be added to a Captiva?

The Captiva generally requires 4.5L of engine oil per change, ensuring the oil level reaches the midpoint on the dipstick. The Captiva uses Chevrolet's specialized fully synthetic oil, SM/GF-4 5W-30. Choosing the appropriate oil can effectively protect the engine. The steps for changing the engine oil are as follows: 1. Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature. Then use a jack to lift the vehicle, engage the handbrake, and secure the front wheels with wooden wedges. 2. Place an old oil container beneath the oil pan, locate the drain plug, and slowly unscrew it, being careful to avoid contact with the hot oil. 3. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen the filter, then unscrew it by hand. 4. Apply new oil to the gasket of the new filter. If the filter is installed vertically, you can pour some new oil into it to reduce dry friction during the next engine start. 5. Pour the new oil into the oil pan, lower the vehicle, check the oil dipstick, and start the engine. The indicator light on the dashboard should turn off immediately after starting.
I remember a few years ago when I drove the Captiva, the engine oil refill was usually around 4.5 liters. It really depends on your car's engine model—mine was the 2.4L gasoline version, and the manual recommended between 4.3 to 4.8 liters. When adding oil, always drain the old oil first and wait for the engine to cool down a bit before pouring in the new oil to avoid burns. Be careful with the amount: too little oil increases friction and can cause engine damage, while too much can lead to blue smoke, oil leaks, and higher fuel consumption. I usually stop at around 3/4 of the way, then check with the dipstick. Park on level ground, wait half an hour, pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and check that the oil level is between the high and low marks—that’s the safe range. Changing the oil every 8,000 km is ideal, and using synthetic oil improves high-temperature resistance, making the car run much smoother.
