This model generally requires approximately 5.5 liters of engine oil. The most suitable oil grade for BMW is 5W-30, while 0W-30 can be used in northern regions. Introduction to engine oil: Engine oil is the lubricant used in engines, composed of base oil and additives. It serves functions such as lubrication and wear reduction, auxiliary cooling, sealing and leak prevention, rust and corrosion protection, and shock absorption. Classification of engine oil: Engine oils are categorized into full synthetic oil, semi-synthetic oil, and mineral oil. Excluding manufacturer-specific factors, generally, full synthetic oil offers the highest performance, followed by semi-synthetic oil, with mineral oil being the least effective.
I've owned a BMW E90-320 and usually add about 4.5 liters of engine oil. The owner's manual recommends 4.3 to 4.5 liters, and I find full synthetic oil lasts longer. When changing the oil, pay attention: first drain the old oil completely, then add the new oil in two stages—after adding half, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the oil, then add the rest. Never exceed the MAX line, as it can cause issues with engine pressurization; adding too little means insufficient lubrication, leading to overheating and damage. I change the oil every 8,000 kilometers and check the filter at the same time. If you drive a lot on hills, you might need a bit more oil, but it's best to follow the manual. Sticking to this routine, my car has been running strong for ten years.
