How Many Years Are New Cars Exempt from Inspection? Where to Get the Inspection Sticker?

New cars that meet the regulations are exempt from inspection for six years, but owners need to apply for the annual inspection sticker at the vehicle management office every two years. To obtain the annual inspection sticker, you only need to bring the original vehicle license, the owner's ID card, valid copies of this year's and last year's compulsory traffic insurance policies, valid proof of this year's vehicle and vessel tax or tax exemption, the vehicle registration certificate, and proof of traffic violation resolution to the vehicle management office. Below is additional information: 1. Non-commercial passenger vehicles: Non-commercial passenger vehicles must be inspected once every 2 years within the first 6 years; after 6 years, once a year; and after 15 years, twice a year. 2. Commercial passenger vehicles: Commercial passenger vehicles must be inspected once a year within the first 5 years; after 5 years, once every 6 months.
Just helped a friend with the new vehicle exemption inspection recently. Remember the current policy states that new vehicles are exempt from on-site inspections for the first 6 years, but must obtain an inspection decal every 2 years. The car purchased two years ago has already had two decals issued. It's super convenient to handle directly on the Traffic Management 12123 App—just upload the compulsory insurance and vehicle/vessel tax certificates, and the decal will be mailed to your home after approval. Important reminder: if you fail to obtain the decal on time, you could get penalty points if caught on camera. Some places also support handling it at the DMV window, but queuing for an hour isn't as efficient as getting it done on your phone in three minutes. Last year, I saw someone who forgot to get the decal and got a ticket—such a shame.
Currently, private cars are indeed exempt from inspection for the first 6 years, but please note that exemption does not mean no procedures are required! You still need to apply for the inspection compliance mark every two years. Last time, I processed it in the 4th year through the Alipay City Services. I entered the vehicle owner service section, uploaded photos of the vehicle license and compulsory traffic insurance policy as required, and the approval was granted within two days. Remember not to operate when the insurance policy is about to expire, as the system will judge the materials invalid. After receiving the electronic mark, there is no need to stick it on the window, but it is recommended to save a screenshot in your phone's album for backup. However, please be reminded: minivans and illegally modified vehicles do not have this benefit.
