The Subject 1 driving license test consists of 100 questions. According to the "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driving Licenses," these questions are divided into single-choice questions and true/false questions, with each question worth 1 point, totaling 100 points. If a test-taker answers 11 questions incorrectly during the exam, the system will automatically submit the test and end the session. Subject 1, also known as the theoretical test or driver theory test, is part of the motor vehicle driving license assessment. The exam content includes driving theory basics, road safety laws and regulations, local regulations, and related knowledge. The test is conducted on a computer with a time limit of 45 minutes. The content of the Subject 1 test includes: driving license and motor vehicle management regulations; road traffic conditions and rules; road traffic safety violations and penalties; road traffic accident handling regulations; basic knowledge of motor vehicles; local regulations; knowledge of braking systems and safety devices for large and medium-sized passenger and cargo vehicles; specialized knowledge for wheeled self-propelled machinery, trams, and trolleybuses. Subject 1 test precautions: Candidates should pay attention to their attire and are not allowed to wear slippers. Electronic devices and bags are not permitted in the examination room. Bring your ID card and queue to enter the waiting hall. Observe the precautions and procedures on the large screen, and store personal belongings in lockers before entering the examination room. Upon entering, the identity verification station will assign a seat. After finding your seat, begin the test. Ensure the camera is aligned with you and follow exam discipline. If you fail the first attempt, there is a retake opportunity on the same day. If you fail again, you must pay to reschedule. After the test, queue to collect your score report and sign it. Failure to sign will render the result invalid. There is no limit to the number of times you can schedule the Subject 1 test. Each subject can be taken once, with one retake opportunity if you fail. If you do not take the retake or fail the retake, the current test session ends, and the applicant must reschedule. In contrast, Subjects 2 and 3 have only five exam attempts. Subjects 2 and 3 can be rescheduled after ten days. If you fail the Subject 3 safe and civilized driving knowledge test, the previously passed road driving skills test results remain valid. There are three subjects in the driving test: Subject 1, Subject 2, and Subject 3. Subject 1 refers to the road traffic safety laws, regulations, and related knowledge test. Subject 2 refers to the field driving skills test. Subject 3 is divided into two parts: road driving skills and safe and civilized driving knowledge test. The safe and civilized driving knowledge test is conducted after Subject 3, so it is commonly referred to as Subject 4. However, the official term (as per the Ministry of Public Security Order No. 123) does not include "Subject 4."
When I was preparing for the written test (Subject 1) of my driver's license, I found it consisted of exactly 100 multiple-choice questions covering everything from traffic rules to safety knowledge. The test duration was only 45 minutes, and you needed to answer at least 90 questions correctly to pass. As a beginner, I practiced with question banks daily and realized that although the volume was large, the questions were all about basic common sense, such as identifying road signs or handling accidents. The key was not to memorize mechanically but to take more mock tests. Using mobile apps for practice was particularly effective, as you had to answer one question every two to three minutes on average. Practicing speed in advance helped avoid nervousness and forgetting answers during the actual test. Looking back now, familiarizing myself with the question patterns and key sections was a huge help. After all, solid mastery of safety knowledge is essential for driving safely on the road.
