How Many Points Are Deducted for Not Displaying the Novice Driver Sign?

During the probationary period of a driver's license, failure to display the probationary sign will not result in point deductions. However, when driving a motor vehicle during the probationary period, a uniform-style probationary sign must be affixed or hung at the rear of the vehicle; otherwise, a fine will be imposed. If driving on highways during the probationary period, the driver must be accompanied by someone who has held a driver's license for the same or higher vehicle category for at least three years. Accumulating 12 penalty points during the probationary period will result in the revocation of driving privileges. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Public Security Order No. 123, which came into effect on January 1, 2013, and the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Safety Law, the first 12 months after a motor vehicle driver initially applies for a driver's license or adds a permitted vehicle category is considered the probationary period.
When I first got my driver's license, I often forgot to display the novice driver sign. Once, I was pulled over by a traffic officer and got 6 points deducted plus a 100-yuan fine. That was a hard lesson—I learned that it's mandatory for new drivers to display 'Novice' or 'Beginner' signs so others can recognize I'm still learning, prone to hesitation or sudden braking, and can give way in advance to avoid accidents. After the penalty, I realized the license only has 12 points in total. A few more oversights, and I'd have to retake the test—way too much hassle. I recommend making it a habit from day one. Use magnetic signs—just stick them on the rear when driving, simple and effortless. Safety is no small matter; don't wait to learn the hard way like I did.
