When a motor vehicle breaks down on the highway, the warning sign should be placed at least 150 meters away in the direction from which the vehicle is approaching. According to the "Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China": Article 68: If a motor vehicle breaks down on the highway, the relevant provisions of Article 52 of this Law shall apply; however, the warning sign shall be placed at least 150 meters away in the direction from which the vehicle is approaching. The occupants of the vehicle shall quickly move to the right shoulder or the emergency lane and promptly call the police. Article 52: When a motor vehicle breaks down on the road and needs to be stopped to fix the problem, the driver shall immediately turn on the hazard warning lights and move the vehicle to a place where it does not obstruct traffic. If the vehicle is difficult to move, the hazard warning lights shall remain on, and measures such as setting up a warning sign in the direction from which the vehicle is approaching shall be taken to increase the warning distance. If necessary, the police shall be promptly called.
