How many liters of coolant can a Volkswagen C-Trek hold?

Volkswagen C-Trek can hold approximately 4 liters of coolant. Coolant prevents the freezing of the liquid in the cooling system during cold winter parking, which could otherwise cause the radiator to crack or damage the engine cylinder block or head. How to choose coolant: The basic indicators of coolant are its freezing point and boiling point. On the market, coolants come in specifications with freezing points of -15°C, -25°C, -30°C, -40°C, etc. Generally, it is advisable to choose a coolant with a freezing point at least 10°C lower than the lowest temperature in your region. Can different coolants be mixed? It is necessary to use the same brand of coolant. Different brands of coolants may have varying production formulas, and mixing them could lead to chemical reactions between additives, rendering them ineffective. Coolant replacement cycle: For vehicles that operate for long periods, such as taxis, high-quality coolant should generally be replaced once a year. For vehicles with shorter operation times, replacement can be done every two years or every 30,000 kilometers. To prevent excessive foam formation, which could reduce the heat exchange efficiency between the coolant and engine components, ensure the product is within its validity period when adding it. Long-life coolants can have a validity period of up to three years. If suspended particles, sediment, or signs of deterioration or discoloration are found in the coolant, it should be replaced promptly, and the system should be cleaned.
When I previously added coolant to my Volkswagen C-Trek, I used a 5-liter bucket of coolant, but in reality, only a little over 4 liters was needed to fill up to the MAX line on the radiator. The total system capacity is generally between 5 to 6 liters. Before refilling, let the car cool down for half an hour to avoid burns or engine damage. Before opening the radiator cap, clean the surrounding dust, then slowly pour in the coolant—don’t fill it all at once, as the level will drop after starting the engine and circulating the coolant, at which point you can top it up a bit more. I make it a habit to check the coolant level every six months to ensure it stays between the MIN and MAX marks. If the level is low, it might indicate a leak or old coolant corroding the pipes, so replacing it in time can prevent engine overheating. Using the OEM-recommended long-life coolant is sufficient, and a 5-liter bucket should be enough.
