How many gears does the Encore M gear have?

The Encore M gear has six gears. The M gear and its applicability of the Encore: The M gear of the Encore is a manual mode, suitable for long downhill slopes, long uphill slopes, and special road sections. Characteristics of the M gear: The M gear is the manual mode of an automatic transmission. The number of gears in the M gear depends on the number of gears in the automatic transmission. The marked speed represents the number of gears, for example, a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission has seven gears. Engaging the M gear during emergency braking: During emergency braking, engaging the M gear and continuously downshifting can shorten the braking distance by utilizing the engine braking principle. In contrast, in D gear at low speeds, it is hydraulically driven, and the mechanical locking device is not connected, so engine braking is ineffective. (Remember to downshift continuously only during emergency braking, otherwise the tachometer will spike, which is bad for the engine).
My Encore is the 2020 model with a 7-speed manual mode (M mode), operable via either the gear lever or steering wheel paddles. For city driving, I usually keep it between M3 and M5 in manual mode—much more responsive than D mode. On mountain roads, dropping to M2 provides excellent stability, and the engine's auto-rev-matching feature makes downhill braking unnecessary. Note that while the dashboard only displays M1 through M7, the transmission remains a 9AT structure—manual mode simply limits the highest usable gear to 7th. This design makes perfect sense since manual mode prioritizes driving engagement, and the top gear is more than sufficient for daily use.
