How Many Differentials Does a 4WD Vehicle Have?
1 Answers
A 4WD vehicle has 3 differentials, namely the center differential, front differential, and rear differential. Center Differential: In multi-axle drive vehicles, the drive axles are connected by drive shafts. To allow each drive axle to potentially have different input angular velocities and eliminate wheel slippage, a center differential (also called an inter-axle differential) can be installed between the drive axles. Differential: A mechanism that enables the left and right (or front and rear) drive wheels to rotate at different speeds. It mainly consists of left and right axle shafts, two planetary gears, and a gear carrier. Its function is to allow the left and right wheels to roll at different speeds when the vehicle is turning or driving on uneven roads, ensuring that both drive wheels perform pure rolling motion.
