Yixuan has both three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines. The differences between the three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines are: 1. Different engines: the three-cylinder engine is a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine; the four-cylinder engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. 2. Different power: the three-cylinder engine has a maximum horsepower of 125 hp and a maximum power of 92 kW; the four-cylinder engine has a maximum horsepower of 150 hp and a maximum power of 110 kW. Yixuan is a compact car produced by Dongfeng Passenger Vehicle, with a body length, width, and height of 4660 mm, 1812 mm, and 1490 mm respectively, and a maximum wheelbase of 2680 mm.

I've driven the 2022 Yixuan, its 1.0T turbocharged engine is a 3-cylinder, while the 1.5T version is the standard 4-cylinder. To be honest, the vibration of the 3-cylinder engine is indeed more noticeable when it first starts, but it's basically imperceptible when driving, especially on the highway where it's very stable. Dongfeng has equipped this 1.0T engine with DVVT technology, which automatically adjusts the intake and exhaust timing based on how deep you press the accelerator. My actual fuel consumption test showed around 6 liters per 100 km, and about 7.5 liters in city traffic jams, which is very friendly for working-class families. Some friends worry about the durability of the 3-cylinder engine, but after driving 50,000 kilometers in three years, the balance shaft in the engine bay completely cancels out any excess vibration.

As someone who frequently test drives vehicles, the currently available Dongfeng Fengshen Yixuan models primarily feature two engine layouts: the 230T version is equipped with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, delivering 197 horsepower with the support of Mach Power technology; while the 200T version comes with a 1.0-liter inline three-cylinder turbocharged engine. Personally, I prefer driving the four-cylinder version, as its torque output is more linear at low RPMs, especially on steep slopes common in cities like Wuhan. The three-cylinder engine requires revving above 2,200 RPM to reach peak torque. However, the three-cylinder version has a hidden advantage—it provides an additional ten centimeters of maintenance space on both sides of the engine bay, saving half an hour in labor costs when replacing spark plugs.

Last week, I just helped the owner maintain two Yixuan cars. The 2023 model with the 1.5T DFMC15TP1 engine is a typical inline-four structure. Removing the engine cover reveals four neatly arranged ignition coils. In contrast, the adjacent 1.0T DFMC10TDS model only has three high-pressure fuel rails. Mechanics dread replacing its three-cylinder engine's timing belt, which takes 40 minutes longer than the four-cylinder engine. However, the three-cylinder engine's piston connecting rod assembly is lighter, and its improved crankcase ventilation system significantly reduces the likelihood of oil burning. Owners should be reminded not to exceed 3.3 liters of oil when refilling the 1.0T model, as overfilling can trigger the emission fault light.
