How Many Chances Are There for the Driving Test Subject 3?

The Driving Test Subject 3 has five chances. According to relevant regulations, within the validity period of the driving skill test permit, the number of scheduled tests for both Subject 2 and Subject 3 road driving skills must not exceed five. If the fifth scheduled driving test is still unsuccessful, the results of other subjects that have been passed will be invalidated. Notes for the Subject 3 test: 1. The Subject 3 test requires driving on the road, with many uncertainties, so make sure the car door is securely closed and the seat belt is fastened; 2. When performing the roadside parking operation, it is better to park a bit further away than to run over the curb; 3. For safety reasons, when getting out of the car, always check if there is a vehicle behind you and ensure it is safe before opening the door.
For the driving test (Subject 3), I heard there are quite a few opportunities—up to 5 official exam attempts. On each exam day, you can also retry once, which adds up to 10 tries in total. If you fail all 5 attempts, you’ll have to re-register for Subject 1, which is quite a hassle. Retakes usually require a waiting period of around 10 days, along with a fee ranging from tens to over a hundred yuan, depending on local DMV regulations. My advice is not to stress too much—I’ve seen people fail the first time but pass later by practicing turn signals and parking maneuvers. The key is to familiarize yourself with the test route. If you fail a few times, don’t lose heart. Ask your instructor for more mock practice sessions—there’s no rush if you have enough time.
