How Many Chances Are There for a Driving Test Subject 2 Retake?

For the Subject 2 driving test, if you fail the initial attempt, you are allowed one retake. If you do not take the retake or fail the retake, the current test session will be terminated, and the applicant must reschedule the test after ten days. Within the validity period of the driving skill test permit, the number of rescheduled tests for Subject 2 and Subject 3 road driving skills tests must not exceed five times. If the fifth rescheduled test is still failed, the results of other previously passed subjects will be invalidated. The full score for Subject 2 is 100 points, with evaluation criteria set for failing, deducting 20 points, deducting 10 points, and deducting 5 points. The test is considered passed if the following conditions are met: ① For applicants of large buses, trailers, city buses, medium-sized buses, and large trucks, a score of 90 points is required; ② For other vehicle types, a score of 80 points is required. The test items for large vehicles (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2) include: pole test, hill start and stop, parallel parking, single-plank bridge, curve driving, right-angle turn, narrow gate, continuous obstacles, bumpy road, narrow road U-turn, as well as simulated highway driving, continuous sharp turns on mountain roads, tunnels, rain (fog) conditions, slippery roads, and emergency handling. The test items for small vehicles (C1, C2) include: reverse parking, parallel parking, hill start and stop (canceled for C2), right-angle turn, and curve driving (commonly known as S-curve) as the five mandatory items (some regions also include a sixth item: highway toll card collection).
My friend has been a driving instructor at a driving school for ten years, so I'm quite familiar with the subject two retake process. According to traffic regulations, each subject two test offers two attempts. If both attempts are failed, you'll need to pay to reschedule a retest. Within the three-year exam validity period, a maximum of five retakes are allowed, which means ten total driving attempts including the initial test. However, implementation details vary by region. For instance, in Shanghai, there must be at least a ten-day interval between retakes. Our driving school generally advises students not to rush into scheduling tests - it's more reliable to practice thoroughly before attempting again.
