The key is understanding the difference between cranking amps and reserve capacity. Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) is the number of amps a battery can deliver at 0°F (-18°C) for 30 seconds while maintaining a voltage above 7.2 volts. This is the burst power needed to start an engine. Amp-Hour (Ah) rating, often found on deep-cycle batteries, indicates how many amps the battery can supply continuously for 20 hours before the voltage drops to 10.5 volts. For example, a 50Ah battery can provide 2.5 amps for 20 hours.
