Vehicle transfer typically takes 1-7 days. For used cars undergoing local transfer procedures, the process can usually be completed within one day if all required documents are in order. For out-of-town vehicle transfers, which involve retrieving the vehicle's major and minor files, it generally takes about 7 working days to complete. Concept of Vehicle Transfer: Every vehicle has a fixed registration, much like a person's household registration. The vehicle registration primarily records the owner's name, address, and relevant vehicle parameters. Vehicle transfer refers to the process of changing the name of the vehicle's owner, which is one of the most critical steps in purchasing a used car, aside from inspecting the vehicle's condition. Documents Required for Vehicle Transfer: Original owner's ID card, new owner's ID card, original and duplicate of the vehicle license, purchase tax certificate, vehicle and vessel tax payment receipt, vehicle registration certificate, vehicle inspection report from the criminal investigation department, and insurance policy/card/invoice. All documents must be provided in their original form.

I just completed the transfer of a used car, and the whole process took about half a day. At 8 a.m., the buyer and I queued up at the vehicle management office to get a number. First, we filled out the vehicle transfer registration form, then the staff checked the vehicle identification number and engine number. Remember to bring the original ID cards of both parties, the vehicle license, and the registration certificate—missing any documents will definitely prevent completion that day. After the vehicle inspection, we went to the window to submit the transaction invoice and compulsory insurance policy, which took about two hours. Finally, we selected a new license plate and paid a fee of 120 yuan. The entire process can be completed in four to five hours if everything goes smoothly. However, it's advisable to avoid the peak period at the end of the month, otherwise, queuing might take the whole day.

The speed of vehicle transfer mainly depends on three factors: document preparation, inspection efficiency, and queuing time. Last month when I helped a relative with the transfer process, we prepared copies of both parties' IDs, vehicle registration certificate, and original purchase invoice a week in advance. The most time-consuming part was the vehicle inspection - if the car had modifications or the VIN showed rust, the staff would require rectification before proceeding. The license plate selection now supports online pre-selection, which can save about half an hour. In smaller cities with fewer DMV visitors, the whole process might take just two hours, but in metropolises like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or Shenzhen, you should reserve half a day during peak hours. Remember to check for traffic violations before initiating transfer, otherwise the process will be delayed.

Recently, I accompanied a friend to handle the transfer of a used car and found the process quite efficient, with thorough preparation being key. We obtained the vehicle purchase tax payment certificate in advance through the tax app and printed it directly at the vehicle management office. The external inspection of the vehicle is crucial—the tire specifications and chassis number must match those on the vehicle registration certificate; otherwise, rectifications will delay the process. We arrived at 9 a.m. and completed all procedures, including the license plate mailing formalities, before noon. Opting for on-site license plate collection would have added an extra hour for production. However, there are significant regional differences—my friend completed the process in just half an hour in a small county town.
